More and more studies indicate the amount of marine sourced debris has been underestimated. East Asia is one of the important fishing grounds and one of the busiest routes of the global shipping industry. According to our coastal survey in the past four years, nearly 60% of marine debris comes from the fishery and shipping industry. In other words, the domestic garbage on board of cargos and fishing vessels, the nets, ropes, and all kinds of buoys from capture and aquaculture fishery have caused massive volumes of marine debris on the coastline of East Asia countries. To understand the potential sources of these ship-based debris, we have compiled these debris into a catalogue.
